Why we are all changing our profile pictures to the American flag

A few weeks ago I noticed a few articles writing about how they were not going to be changing their profile picture to the French flag. I read a few of them, but felt there were a few things missing. The focus of these articles were mostly on the negatives verses the positives of people overlaying a flag on their profile.

When I was in the 7th grade I lost two friends in the Oklahoma City bombing. This was a terrorist attack that hit the heartland hard, but the amazing thing was how people came together in unity. Firefighters from New York City flew in to Oklahoma to help as well as many others from all over the nation. I mention the firefighters from NYC because in the terrorist attacks of September 11th firefighters and many other first responders as well as good hearted people from Oklahoma went to help in NYC.

The reason why we are all changing our profile pictures to the American flag is simply one word. Unity.

We are the United States of America. Keyword is United. Our focus should be on unity.

So when changing your profile picture to the American flag have the following in mind:

1. I am doing this because I am an American
2. I may not have the same religion, be the same color or agree with the left of right, but I am an American
3. I can agree with and focus on being a citizen of the United States of American, which is what this flag represents. Freedom
